December Deadlines Garden Apprentice Program Deacember 8, 2023 The Garden Apprentice Program (GAP) at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a great way for teens to learn about urban agriculture and the environment while working in one of the most exciting public gardens in the world! Apprentices can work their way up the four-tier program. If you enjoy getting your hands dirty and want to work with other teens, GAP may be for you. Apprentices make a nine-month commitment to GAP, from March to November, which includes spring training, summer programming, and a weekly commitment throughout the spring and fall. Pioneer Academics Summer Research Grades: 10, 11, 12 The Pioneer Research Program provides undergraduate-level research opportunities to talented, intellectually motivated high school students from around the world. Joint Science Education Project (JSEP) Program through Dartmouth University Deadline: January 31, 2024 Age: Current Juniors The one-week 2024 Remote JSEP program will take place in late July or August 2024. Exact dates will be determined and posted here soon. Students are expected to attend the full week of the program, which consists of daily meetings on zoom and independent work completed at home. Daily synchronous meetings on zoom will last no more than 4 hours and we will arrange meeting times to accommodate time zones of U.S. students as best as possible. Students will also have some pre-assignments to complete in advance of the remote program. February Deadlines to Apply Futures and Options Career Essentials Program (Spring Program) Grades: 9-12 Deadline: February 5, 2024 Students in the CareerEssentials program attend one orientation and 10 weekly workshops, each lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes. Participants in the program learn how to professionally interview, present information to a group, behave in a professional environment, manage their time, and create an effective resume. Students will also participate in a career exploration field trip that gives them a chance to learn about different industries and network with professionals who are willing to share career advice and insights from their own lives. CareerEssentials affords students an opportunity to learn and form relationships with other students from all five boroughs, and to create connections with driven, and motivated peers. Students will receive a small stipend upon successfully completing the program. Accepted students will attend the program from 4:30 to 6:15 pm one day per week (students may choose a day Mon-Thurs), this fall from February to May. The program is open to all high school students who reside and attend school in New York City, but we consider it especially appropriate for underclassmen to prepare them for future internship opportunities.

The Summer Internship Program takes place over 6 weeks in July and August. During the summer, students work between 20 to 30 hours per week. Most summer internships are a total of 120 - 150 hours. Memorial Sloan Kettering HOPP Deadline: February 9, 2024 Age: Completion of 9th grade by June 2024 The Human Oncology & Pathogenesis Program (HOPP) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center provides high school students with hands-on experience in laboratory techniques. Sonia and Celina Sotomayor Judicial Internship Program Application Deadline: February 7, 2024 Ages: Current Junior In the Summer of 2024, a select group of high school students will participate in judicial internships in state and federal courts and in educational workshops.
Students will intern with a state or federal judge located in one of the five New York City boroughs. Internship hours will likely be from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., subject to the assigned judge’s discretion, from Monday through Thursday for four weeks. Students will also attend educational and professional development workshops on Fridays. Princeton Summer Journalism Age: Current Juniors Cost: Free Deadline: February 15, 2024 The Princeton Summer Journalism Program (PSJP), which is housed in the Emma Bloomberg Center for Access and Opportunity at Princeton University, is the only program of its kind offering a free, year-long college preparation and journalism program for high school juniors from limited-income backgrounds. Deadline in March 2024 The Future Latino Leaders Law Institute is a nine-day program run by the HNBF in Washington, DC and provides selected Latino high school students with the opportunity to learn more about the legal profession. Established by the HNBF in 2005, the Law Institute offers students the chance to come to DC and learn more about the college application process, meet influential Latino leaders, and tour national monuments and various government agencies. The Law Institute is offered cost-free! NYC District Attorney's Internship Program Deadline: March 8, 2024 Age: 10, 11, 12 The Manhattan District Attorney’s High School Internship Program is a rigorous internship that provides students with an insider’s view of the criminal justice system. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in workshops and discussions surrounding criminal justice, police brutality, civic engagement, leadership, and more. Spelman Early College Program Ages-College Prep Institute (9 & 10 Grade), Early College Program (11 Grade) Deadline- March 15, 2024 Early Prep Institute- The College Prep Institute (CPI) is a two-week residential program for female high school students who are currently in the 9th and 10th grades and are seeking an exceptional experience to launch their college search process. College Prep Institute Session 2 July 5 - July 19 | Fee: $2900 The Early College Program (ECP)is a four-week residential program for female high school students, who are currently in the 11th grade, and are seeking an early college experience. Since 1989, ECP has been chosen as the program to launch the college career of hundreds of exceptional young scholars. ECP is an intense academic program that offers college credit courses in English and Biology for current high school juniors and seniors. A cumulative 3.0 GPA along with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in English and Science courses is required.

Hofstra University's Summer Science Research Program Deadline: March 29, 2024 Age: Current 10 or 11 grade Hofstra University's Summer Science Research Program offers high school students opportunities in science research under the guidance of professionals in science and mathematics. For more than fifteen years, HUSSRP has provided selected research-oriented high school students the opportunity to work with our science faculty during the summer in an on-campus research program. The program runs from early July through mid-August culminating in a science "poster session" in early Fall where students display the work they performed during the summer. The poster session is open to all students in the program, their families, and their teachers. Students are selected for this program on the basis of their academic qualifications, a teacher's recommendation, and the availability of research mentors in their area of interest. The cost of the program is $2,000.
YouthBridge-NY Fellowship Program Age: Current Sophomores Deadline: March 29, 2024 The heart of YouthBridge-NY is its two-year Fellowship program, where high school juniors and seniors from diverse backgrounds participate in intensive trainings on leadership and diversity. The fellowship kicks off in late August with an overnight orientation retreat, where participants get to know each other through team-building games, outdoor activities, and workshops on topics like diversity, social justice, and leadership. Throughout the first year of the program, first-year teen Fellows participate in skill-building workshops and team-based learning opportunities; second year Bridgers are immersed in experiential learning opportunities and mentoring with successful professionals. Each YouthBridge-NY fellowship year concludes with an End-of-Year Celebration and Bridger Graduation in June. In addition, throughout the fellowship, Fellows and Bridgers are invited to participate in volunteer opportunities, group outings, and other special events. As YouthBridge-NY alumni will tell you, the varied aspects of the YouthBridge-NY fellowship come together to create lasting friendships and an amazing network of support for years to come. New York Historical Society Grades: Entering grades 10, 11, or 12. Deadline: April 7, 2024 Student Historian interns are high school-aged students who use the resources of New-York Historical to conduct exciting research and share their scholarship through creative digital projects. Interns meet with professional staff to learn about the museum, library, digital humanities, and history fields; work collaboratively with fellow students to develop their historical thinking, communication, and digital media skills; and engage in hands-on work to deepen their understanding of American history and the digital humanities. The theme of the internship is Our Composite Nation: Frederick Douglass’ America.
Interns who attend a Title 1 School or are eligible for free or reduced lunch will be offered a stipend to participate. Unpaid internships will be provided for all other accepted students, with the option to receive community service hours or school credit. Participation in this program can be used to fulfill the extracurricular requirement for the NYSED Seal of Civic Readiness. We accept 25 interns per cohort. This internship takes place in person.

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation’s largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer. Participants have the opportunity to explore their interests and career pathways, develop workplace skills and engage in learning experiences that help in developing their social, civic and leadership skills. STEM Matters NYC Application Deadline: TBD FOR 2024 PreK through grade 12 students can apply now to attend exciting science and STEM programs being offered this summer at the NYC Department of Education’s Environmental Study Center and NYC Center for Space Science Education, the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, Museum of the City of New York, New York Aquarium, Prospect Park Zoo, Queens Botanical Garden, Queens County Farm Museum, Queens Zoo, Staten Island Museum, Staten Island Zoo, and SUNY Old Westbury. Programs feature 1-week camps, high school internships, and a 4-week college credit bearing course. All programs are free and students receive MetroCards for transportation if needed. GO Getter Internships - Lower Manhattan Grades: Must be 16 years old by July 5 Deadline: TBD. The GO Project summer internship is an opportunity for high school students to learn and develop leadership skills while working with GO Project students in academic and/or enrichment classes. During the five-week GO Summer program, interns will be supporting instruction in one of our K – 4 classrooms under the guidance of a Head Teacher or Enrichment Teacher. Interns will work in small groups or one-to-one within the classroom to help students complete projects, remain focused, and build confidence as learners. Morning interns will provide support in an academic classroom setting for math and literacy. Afternoon interns will provide support in a particular enrichment activity, such as art, theater, ballet, hip-hop, capoeira, yoga, and more.
Interns will also be participating in rigorous daily professional development sessions where a strong social justice-centered curriculum and required readings and assignments will form the core framework for the internship. At the end of the summer, interns will have completed a portfolio with work from daily classroom and professional development sessions, co-led a professional development session, gained leadership skills, and developed a culminating Hustle project that they will showcase for other GO Project interns, staff members, board members, and community supporters.
Children's Museum of the Arts Age: 10-12 Grade Deadline: TBD (typically end of April) CMA’s Teen Internship program provides 10th-12th grade students with an opportunity to support our Fine Arts and Media Lab programs during our summer season. Interns will learn from our professionally trained Teaching Artists during our Summer Art Colony Camps at CMA, Prospect Park, and on Governors Island. The Common Young Writers Program Ages :9-12th Grade Deadline :May 17th, 2024 Cost: Tiered Pricing and Scholarships offered. See website for details The program runs July 22 to August 2 The Common Young Writers Program welcomes high school students passionate about creative writing to join us for a two week intensive on the craft of fiction. This virtual course includes daily synchronous and asynchronous work for students excited to learn the building blocks of fiction (scene, character, plot, image) and write and revise their own stories in a short period of time. Students will learn to read like a writer, by closely examining short stories published in The Common, and engage with their peers. By the end of this jam-packed program, students will emerge with original pieces of writing, more confident in their skills and connected to a supportive writing community. Taught by the editors and editorial assistants of Amherst College’s literary magazine, the summer courses (Level I and Level II) run Monday-Friday, July 22 to August 2. We will prioritize high school applicants, rising 9-12 grades (or the equivalent if home-schooled), but will accept applications for Level II from former participants entering college if they are no older than 18.
