Naviance is a critical component to the college application process here at the Notre Dame School. In the college office, we use Naviance to assess students scores, identify balance in student's school choices, sending recommendations, transcripts, and much more! Not only is it useful for us, but very useful for students and families as well! Starting in the freshman year up until a student makes a choice on which school they are attending, Naviance is key. We encourage students to use this fantastic tool as early as possible, and become familiar with all that this site has to offer.
Freshman Year
Students are given their usernames and passwords. Keep this in a safe place as you will need it for the next four years.
Get in the habit of keeping track of all that you do here at the Notre Dame School, start building your resume on Naviance. Continuously update this over the next four years, you'll be glad you did!
Sophomore Year
Use Naviance to start figuring out which schools are of interest to you, the summer before your junior year you may begin to apply to summer programs at colleges and universities. This is a great opportunity to live on a campus, take some classes, and get a taste of college life!
Junior Year
Use Naviance to asses your Career Interest Profiler and get matched to careers that may be right for you!
Start using Naviance to keep track of colleges you may be interested in, add them to "College's I'm Thinking About"
Compare yourself! By now you should have an idea of what your GPA and SAT score are. Start thinking about which colleges are safety, comfort, and reach schools. Remember, balance is key! Once you have a school on your "Colleges I'm Thinking About" list, hit the graph logo and scroll to the bottom. Here you will see a scatter gram, and can see, on average, where you lay in comparison to others who have been accepted, denied, or waitlisted. **This is GENERAL
Senior Year
First things first, by the beginning of senior year you should have secured two recommenders. By the second week of September, you must request their letters through NAVIANCE.
Start listing which schools you are thinking about applying to, if you are definite about certain schools you will be applying to, add them to the "Colleges I'm Applying To." When you do this, you must also identify which application method you are using, as well as type such as "RD, EA, ED." If you are applying EA or ED it is CRITICAL that it is marked on Naviance, otherwise your recommenders will not be notified when to have their letter ready by, and the college office may not have your documents prepared on time!!!!
Your transcripts to schools you are applying to through the Common App are sent through Naviance. You must give us permission to do so by linking the Common App FERPA waiver with Naviance.
Please, keep your list of colleges that you are applying to up to date a soon as you make choices to apply, not apply, add a school, remove a school. All schools should be listed on Naviance by the end of September for those applying EA/ED. By the first week of November for RD.
